It’s 2015, why can’t I have an Ikea wedding
registry?
As a new generation bride, I’m looking for an
unconventional wedding registry. I don’t want to be restricted to a generic department store; I want specialty items from
specialty stores who don’t offer a registry program. As I began to brainstorm
with Pinterest naturally as my background I started
to think why couldn’t I have those things?
Creating a Pinterest Wedding Registry board would allow me to link all my favourite items to
one spot. The pinned photos would have the price and description located
underneath to easily scan. When a potential buyer clicks on one of the pins they are directed right to the website to purchase.
Guests
would be able to access the board with or without an account to browse the
items to purchase. The best part is not having to go to multiple sites with
multiple registry codes. I think a lot of times couples go into a marriage with
everything they already need, so being able to pick out those few special items
from any store is ideal.
To give you an idea:
From what I have experienced:
Pros
- Offer items from stores who don’t have registry options
- You’re not limited to any one generic website
- Keep items from multiple stores in one spot with one link
- Pick and choose specialty items to include on your registry
- Guests are able to see what you want and pick it out from any store
- Casually throw in the cash option without feeling awkward
- Not everyone knows how to use or access Pinterest
- Guests could double up on gift purchases, unless the surprise was ruined for the couple by commenting on the photo
- Items or sites to click on could become unavailable after pinning them
So, what do you think? Would you rather stick to
the traditional wedding registry or opt for something a little more
unconventional utilizing Pinterest?

I never would have thought about using Pinterest for a wedding registry. There seems to be a lot of pros to using this as your main source for the registry, but at the same time a lot of cons are there. These cons would create more of a problem in my opinion when trying to have items to be purchased.
ReplyDeleteI, myself would prefer to stick to the traditional registry due to the fact you can check which items have been purchased, and budget for items that will need to be purchased after the wedding. Technology has many benefits, so using Pinterest as a being spot to find items to add to your registry. Find items throughout your pinning adventures, and locate where they're from, and hopefully be able to add them to one of the registries.
Great post Emily, you thought of many strong points to add within your blog post.
I'm with Lindsay, I never would have thought of making my wedding registry on Pinterest. But it's a fantastic idea! You can put whatever you want in there and you're not restricted to one store or brand.
