According to bookmorebrides.com, the author, who herself is a wedding planner and a wedding consultant, embraces the fact that more brides are getting involved with their big day and really adding their own personal flare. She does go to say that the trend has taken away from her business because some will only hire her for the day of the wedding and not the lead up to it.
Another website that actually has some statistics about the DIY brides/grooms was bridebox.com. Here, 200 people were asked if they would plan their own DIY wedding and this is the chart that shows the number:
Just under 80% of the people surveyed said that they would rather do their own planning for the wedding. The article continues on saying that this is putting a strain on the wedding planning industry and that wedding planners need to be ready for a storm.
Personally, I don't think that it will put a strain on the wedding industry, it will help it evolve. Wedding planners and consultants should be shaping their business around what the customer wants. Besides, it's what the customers want that will keep you business. If I was a wedding planner and a bride/groom came to see me with a wedding board or something that she has put together on Pinterest, I would welcome it and try my best to give her/him what she/he wanted. If I was hired only for the day of the wedding, I would still make notes for what I've seen so that I can reflect on my business and how I can evolve.
As we can see DIY is on the rise so what do you think? Do you think that we should fight the trend or do you think that we should embrace it and evolve with it? Leave a comment and tell me what you think!
