There are so many types of blogs out there, it is hard to decide on a fit for your style and event. Here is a short list of the five most common types of event bloggers.
1. The How- To
This is the blogger who never had time for teacher's college and love to spread information. they will tell you everything they have found useful or what they want people to know. the How-To blogger knows what people want to learn and gives ideas on how to achieve the desired results. Beware of: being a know-it-all. There is a difference between being helpful and a pain in the tush.
2. The What Not-To-Do
The stricter, more cautious cousin of the How-To blogger. They will let you know if you're on the track to losing sales, crashing your browser or what you're saying to your clients that could turn them away from your company. The What-Not-To-Do blogger will let you know. Beware of: Offending people who thought they were doing the right thing. People get defensive and offended very easily. And here you thought they would be thanking you.
3. Inspiration
This blogger went there and saw that and was so inspired they created this. A great way to share ideas, especially if you have devoted followers. Beware of: Being the so-inspired-nothing-is-inspiring-anymore person. You may still be inspired. Everyone else wants out.
4. Templates for X
You need to finalize a contract? Here are tips and a template. You need to order food and drink? Here is your full checklist with some helpful hints thrown in. This blogger loves being organized. Beware of: Privacy issues. Once you put that list on there, you won't get it back. Make sure you are okay with sharing, and don't be mad if people are viewing your blog because they are taking advantage of you.
5. Past-Experiences
An on-the-go post-event blogger. They review who attended, success vs failure, decorations, dress-code and refreshments. Beware of: Too much information or not enough details. Try to find the perfect mix so that people get the idea, not a minute-by-minute review.
Keeping in mind that this is by no means an exhaustive list of event blogger types, what did I miss? Do you fall into any of the above categories?

Wow Dorothy! Thanks for that insightful blog post, who knew there were that many different types of blogs. Since blogging is such a hobby to so many people it is interesting to see that there is different styles of blogs and users can have many different types of blogs that refer to different hobby's or interests they might have. Reading your post it got me thinking what kind of blogger would I be? I think I would be the "how to" Blogger as I love trying out DIY projects at home and also I am always trying new things like recipes and different products such as nail polish and love giving people my inside scoop about what I liked and disliked about anything new i tried. However at the same time I feel I would be an "inspiring" blogger. Im always reading new things that inspire me and id love to share what inspires me with other people. Inspiring topics about life lessons, health, travel, relationships and anything else that makes me have a "wow" moment I would like to share with other bloggers as well. I think blogging is such a cool idea of really sharing your thoughts and feelings and would love to get more into it. Thanks again
ReplyDeleteThis is so awesome!! I really want to start off by saying that I loved your blog layout - was really intriguing and made me want to read further. I liked the fact that you included the different types of bloggers. I feel as though I fall into the "Inspiration" blogger the most because when I look onto blogs, I mostly go on for ideas and inspiration. It was cool to see other kinds of bloggers as well. Awesome blog post!
ReplyDeleteI very much agree with Julia. This blog was a great layout and was intriguing. I hate when blogs are just disorganized, long and wordy, but yours was short simple and straight to the point. I too fall under the inspiration category and it's very important to keep inspiration blogs intriguing, easy to read and use visuals. I also love the how-to's at times. This also just needs to be simply laid out, using visuals and straight to the point. But I too, didn't really think about the other types of blogs so it was interesting to see what else is out there. I think blogs are a very powerful thing in terms of business as well. You can really use them to advertise and promote your business by using special key words and linking them to your website and other important pages. With some advertising research, it really is something to get your name out there and a lot of people do start businesses from blogging. People are very much into learning from each other in this generation.
ReplyDeleteGreat Job Dorothy! Very well organized, and put together well! I agree with the rest of the girls, and talking about being alike the "inspired" blogger. I feel the same, as a pinterester (lol), and along with being a creative person outside of school. I like by my own rules, and follow my own thoughts. Reading inspired blogs and other things that enlighten my life is the way I enjoy finding new things to bring into my life.
ReplyDeleteI love your comment about being a know it all. With all the blogging happening, it seems that EVERYONE is an expert.
ReplyDeleteGreat blog! A very good insight on all the different types of bloggers. I never thought about all those different kinds, but it all totally makes sense.
